The Band
One of the most influential acts in the history of American Music. The band was formed in the late 60's out of a group of five musicians led by Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm that had slowly come together since the late '50s as a backing band for some of the most influential artists of all time like Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan. After backing Dylan as he transitioned into his "Electric" period, the Band began to craft a sound that combined the influences of folk, blues, and country music to form a new kind of Americana sound. Their albums "Music from Big Pink" and their self-titled second album, proved to be some of the most instantly influential music ever created as it altered the careers of icons like Elton John, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and even Paul McCartney. They have continued their influence into the newest generation of artists with like Wilco and Jenny Lewis clearly demonstrating their impeccable influence.
